Regulations of the 9th “Wu Qingyuan Cup” World Women’s Go Open Tournament

VI. Competition Method
1. Format: Open tournament style. Professional female Go players from all
countries and regions may register.
2. International Preliminary Round: National and regional Go organizations shall
register through the Chinese Weiqi Association to compete for 12 qualification
spots:
o 1 spot for Europe, 1 spot for North America, and 1 spot for Southeast
Asia, selected independently by each respective region.
o 9 spots for players from remaining countries and regions, who must
gather in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China to compete in the centralized
International Preliminary Round.
3. Main Tournament (24 Players): Composed of 12 seeded players and 12 players
qualified from the preliminary round.
o 12 Seeded Spots Allocation: Champion and runner-up of the previous
edition (2), China (4), Japan (2), South Korea (2), Chinese Taipei (1), Host
Wildcard (1).
4. Domestic Qualification Eligibility: The top 4 players in Group A of the “Fujian
Haixia Bank Cup” 2026 National Women’s Amateur Go Open (non-transferable),
along with the highest-ranked participant with Fuzhou household registration (if
already in Group A top 4, the spot defers sequentially down to 3rd place among
Fuzhou residents), are eligible to participate in the International Preliminary
Round.
5. Rules: The competition follows the Go Competition Rules evaluated and
approved by the Chinese Weiqi Association. Black gives a komi of 3 3/4 stones
(7.5 points).
6. Time Control: 2 hours per player, followed by five 1-minute byo-yomi periods.
Matches begin at 12:30 PM Beijing Time.
7. Tournament System:
o The International Preliminary Round uses a single-elimination system; the
1st place player in each group advances to the Main Tournament.
o The Main Tournament (Round of 24 to Semi-finals) uses a singleelimination
system.
o The Finals use a best-of-three series.
o For single-elimination matches, black/white assignment is determined by
nigiri on-site before each game. For the Finals, nigiri determines order in
Game 1, sides are swapped in Game 2, and a re-nigiri is conducted if a
Game 3 is needed.
8. Drawing: Draws are conducted for each round, following the principle that
players from the same country or region do not face each other.
9. Byes: The 8 players receiving a first-round bye in the Round of 24 are allocated
based on the top 8 of the previous edition: China (2), Japan (3), South Korea (3). If
the number of participants in the main tournament is insuEicient for the
specified byes, vacant spots will be allocated by the organizers.
10. Rating: Results will be calculated into oEicial player ratings.
11. Supplementary Regulations: Specific rules for each stage will be announced
separately.
VII. Dates and Venue
The tournament is divided into two stages:
1. International Preliminary Round: Scheduled for October 18–21, 2026 (match
days) in Fuzhou, Fujian. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to adjust
match days based on registration numbers.
2. Main Tournament to Finals: Scheduled for December 2–10, 2026 in Fuzhou,
Fujian.

VIII. Registration
Chinese Weiqi Association Professional Players: Register via
https://saishi.weiqi.org.cn/?link=wqy9 or scan the oEicial QR code. Registration
window: September 1, 2026 to September 15, 2026, 22:00.
Other Countries/Regions: Must submit player rosters to the Chinese Weiqi
Association by September 15, 2026.
IX. Expenses
Prize money is awarded exclusively to the 24 players qualifying for the Main
Tournament. All other expenses (travel, accommodation, etc.) must be borne by the
participants themselves.
X. Player Obligations
1. Participants must wear formal attire to the Opening and Closing ceremonies for
each stage.
2. Participants are required to attend press conferences and accept interviews
designated by the committee.
3. Participants are obliged to sign oEicial souvenirs (e.g., Go boards, fans)
designated by the committee, not exceeding 20 items per stage.
4. Unjustified forfeits after registration will result in disqualification from the next
edition.
XI. Prize Money (Pre-tax)
Champion: RMB 500,000
Runner-up: RMB 200,000
Semi-final Losers: RMB 70,000
Quarter-final Losers: RMB 40,000
Round of 16 Losers: RMB 30,000
Round of 24 Losers: RMB 20,000
XII. Unaddressed matters will be notified separately.
XIII. The Chinese Weiqi Association reserves the right of final interpretation of these
regulations.
